Abstract
The effective anisotropy in perpendicularly magnetised Co/Pt multilaye r films has been related to estimates of the enhanced perpendicular or bital moment found from magnetic X-ray circular dichroism measurements . The anisotropy is found to scale with the d-moment and to depend on the number of bilayers in the multilayers. X-ray reflectivity and diff raction measurements indicate the development of a strong [111] textur e and columnar-type microstructure with increasing number of bilayers.
