Abstract
Co-59 NMR spectroscopy was used to study the structure of [Co(t(Co))/C u(9 Angstrom)](2O) multilayers with 4 Angstrom less than or equal to t (Co) less than or equal to 13 Angstrom. Between 4 and 10 Angstrom, Co is found to form discontinuous islands embedded in the alloy-like CoCu mixture, similarly to the structure reported previously for [Co(t(Co) )/Cu(20 Angstrom)](20) multilayers. However, the restoring field is si gnificantly different for samples with t(Cu) = 9 Angstrom from that in samples with t(Cu) = 20 Angstrom. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
