Two series of Co/V multilayers were sputtered respectively with higher
(series I) and lower(series II) deposition rates. X-ray diffraction pa
tterns show that series II has better structural quality. The saturati
on magnetization (M-s) and uniaxial perpendicular anisotropy constant
(K-u) oscillate simultaneously with vanadium thickness and no interlay
er coupling was observed in series 1, while spin-wave resonance and we
ak interlayer coupling were observed in series II. We attribute the di
fference to different degree of intermixing and alloy formation in the
multilayers. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
