The influence of the initial structure, degree of deformation, and tem
perature on the processes occurring in postdeformational heating is in
vestigated for the example of 18KhGT steel, A relation is established
between the character of these processes and the thermal stability of
substructural strengthening in repeated heating at subcritical tempera
tures. The weakening kinetics and the evolution of the dislocational s
tructure of steel in various substructural states are investigated, Th
e conditions of increase in thermal stability of the deformational str
engthening are determined, as well as the processes limiting this stab
ility.
