Abstract
The Young's moduli and shear moduli of Clr-V and Cr-Al alloys that for m solid solutions are measured by determining the velocity of longitud inal and transverse ultrasonic waves. The elastic moduli of chromium a re reduced on alloying, on account of the difference in atomic dimensi ons of the solvent and the alloying elements, The linear dependence of the elastic moduli of Cr-V (up to 8% V) alloys is discussed from the perspective of the variation in interatomic distance; however, the res ults of the estimates are in complete agreement with experimental data , on account of the change in electronic structure of the chromium and vanadium atoms on alloy formation. The concentrational dependence of the shear moduli of Cr-Al alloys with up to 15 at, % Al is not linear, as a result of the magnetic transformation A --> P --> A.
