Abstract
Four polythermal cross sections of the magnesium corner in the Mg-Gd-S m ternary state diagram characterizing the crystallization surfaces ar e constructed, In the system, there are three liquidus surfaces corres ponding to the primary crystallization of solid solutions based on mag nesium and compounds forming in the binary systems adjacent to the mag nesium corner: Mg5Gd and Mg41Sm5. At 542 degrees C, there is a four-ph ase nonvariant equilibrium of transition type: L + Mg5Gd = (Mg) + Mg41 Sm5.
