The isothermal cross section of the Al-Zn-Sr system at 623 K is constr
ucted on the basis of differential thermal, X-ray phase, and metallogr
aphic analysis, In the system, two ternary compounds of composition Sr
Al2Zn2 and SrAlZn, in equilibrium with each other and with secondary s
ystems, are observed. The aluminum solid solution is in equilibrium wi
th SrAl4 and the zinc-based solid solution, The sections SrAlZn-SrZn2,
SrAlZn-SrZn13, SrAl2Zn2-SrAl4, SrAlZn-SrAl2Zn2 are pseudobinary eutec
tics, while the sections Zn-SrAl2Zn2, Zn-SrAlZn, Zn-SrAl4 are of perit
ectic type, The sections SrAl2Zn2-SrAl2 and SrAl2-SrAlZn, which are pa
rtially pseudobinary systems, triangulate the Al-Sn-Sr system into the
following secondary subsystems: Al-Zn-SrAl4, SrAl4-SrAl2Zn2-Zn, Zn-Sr
Al2Zn2-SrAlZn, SrAlZn-Zn-SrZn13, SrZn13-SrAlZn-SrZn2. The projections
of the liquidus surface in the system are constructed. The coordinates
of nonvariant transformations are determined.
