Gs. Li et al., NEUTRON YIELDS AND EMISSION RATES OF 50 MEV U O-18-ION ON THICK BE, CU AND AU TARGETS/, Nuclear instruments & methods in physics research. Section A, Accelerators, spectrometers, detectors and associated equipment, 404(2-3), 1998, pp. 349-354
The neutron yield and the neutron emission rate are very important par
ameters in neutron dosimetry and shielding studies of heavy ion reacti
ons. Total neutron yields and neutron emission rates in the forward di
rection for 50 MeV/u O-18-ion on thick Be, Cu and Au targets have been
measured using an activation technique. The results indicate that neu
tron yields and emission rates in the forward direction depend on the
atomic number of target nuclei, i.e. the lighter target has greater ne
utron yield and neutron emission rate. The neutron yield of O-18-ions
is greater than that of C-12-ions when target nucleus and incident ene
rgy per nucleon are identical. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All righ
