Pa. Kolodin et al., AMPLIFICATION OF MICROWAVE MAGNETIC ENVELOPE SOLITONS IN THIN YTTRIUM-IRON-GARNET FILMS BY PARALLEL PUMPING, Physical review letters, 80(9), 1998, pp. 1976-1979
The parametric amplification of 4.01 GHz, 22 ns wide microwave magneti
c envelope (MME) backward volume wave pulses by parallel pumping has b
een realized in yttrinm iron garnet (YIG) films. The parametric parall
el pumping was achieved with 15-23 ns wide pulses applied to a strip l
ine resonator at a frequency omega(p) approximately twice the signal f
requency omega(s). Low power linear MME pulse signals were pumped to f
orm solitons with a gain of 20 dB, and soliton signals could be booste
d by 8 dB. These large gain factors occur only when omega(p) is upshif
ted from 2 omega(s) by 30 MHz. This upshift is critical and is related
to the nonlinear nature of the soliton signal. [S0031-9007(98)05461-1
