The authors report on a systematic procedure for optimizing the second
order susceptibility in semiconductor quantum wells (QWs) based on te
rnary alloys. The procedure relies on combining the supersymmetric and
the coordinate transform methods. Optimized design of AlxGa1-xAs base
d QWs gives nonlinearity somewhat larger than is presently achieved in
this system. (C) 1997 American Institute of Physics.
