Abstract
This paper summarizes our recent efforts in modelocking Ti:sapphire la sers with semiconductor saturable absorber mirrors (SESAMs). We presen t the shortest optical pulses ever generated directly from a laser. Th e modelocking build-up time (T-BU) of 60 mu s is, to our knowledge, th e shortest reported for a passively modelocked KLM laser to date.
