Sa. Diddams et al., AMPLITUDE AND PHASE MEASUREMENTS OF FEMTOSECOND PULSE SPLITTING IN NONLINEAR DISPERSIVE MEDIA, Optics letters, 23(5), 1998, pp. 379-381
Frequency-resolved optical gating is used to characterize the propagat
ion of intense femtosecond pulses in a nonlinear, dispersive medium. T
he combined effects of diffraction, normal dispersion, and cubic nonli
nearity lead to pulse splitting. The role of the phase of the input pu
lse is studied. The results are compared with the predictions of a thr
ee-dimensional nonlinear Schrodinger equation. (C) 1998 Optical Societ
