The lectotypification of Clusia major L., the type of Clusia L., is ex
amined. It is shown that the lectotypes hitherto proposed should be su
perseded; a new lectotype is designated. As a consequence, C. subg. Th
ysanoclusia and C. sect. Stauroclusia become C. subg. Clusia and sect.
Clusia respectively. The correct name for C. sect. Euclasia, nom. inv
al., is C. sect. Chlamydoclusia. An earlier lectotype designation for
C. minor is superseded as the holotype still exists. A lectotype for C
. plukenetii Urb. is also designated.
