Am. Lompre, THE SARCO(ENDO)PLASMIC RETICULUM CA2-ATPASES IN THE CARDIOVASCULAR-SYSTEM DURING GROWTH AND PROLIFERATION(), Trends in cardiovascular medicine, 8(2), 1998, pp. 75-82
The sarco(endo)plasmic reticulum Ca2+-ATPase is present in all cell ty
pes and is essential in restoring a low cytosolic Ca2+ concentration a
fter cell activation. In the past years, six different isoforms encode
d by three genes have been identified by cDNA cloning. Some of these i
soforms are expressed in the cardiovascular system, and their expressi
on is regulated during proliferation that occurs during ontogenic deve
lopment as well as in pathological cell growth. This article reviews t
he new features concerning isoform diversity of the sarco(endo)plasmic
reticulum Ca2+-ATPase and modulation of expression of these isoforms
in cardiac and vascular cells. (C) 1998, Elsevier Science Inc.
