Experimental data on preparation of N-vinylsuccinimide polymers and co
polymers under various conditions are summarized and correlated. The e
ffect of the preparation procedure on the solubility and molecular wei
ght of the resulting polymers is discussed. The constants of copolymer
ization of N-vinylsuccinimide with other monomers are given, and the e
ffect of reaction conditions on the copolymerization constants and com
position nonuniformity of the resulting copolymers is discussed. The f
eatures of reactions in chains of N-vinylsuccinimide polymers and copo
lymers and the possibility of directed hydrolysis of the copolymers ar
e discussed. Physicomechanical, thermal, electrical, and other propert
ies of N-vinylsuccinimide polymers and copolymers as well as data on t
oxicity of their polymeric analogs are presented. Promising fields of
application of N-vinylsuccinimide polymers and copolymers and their po
lymeric analogs are outlined, in particular, preparation of antiviral,
antibacterial, antitubercular, and other drugs with a prolonged thera
peutic effect.
