The treatment of beta- and gamma-cyclodextrins with the half-sandwich
complexes of iron afford the inclusion compounds CpFe(L-2)X . CD (beta
and gamma) (X = Cl, I; L = CO; L-2 = dppe, dppe = (Ph)(2)P(CH2)(2)P(P
h)(2)), [CpFe(L-2)L']PF6 . CD (beta and gamma) L' neutral donor ligand
s and [(Cp(dppe)Fe)(2)-mu-CN]PF6 . 2CD (beta and gamma). The inclusion
compounds [Cp(dppe)Fe-NCCH3]PF6 .gamma-CD and [Cp(dppe)Fe-(eta(1)-dpp
m)]PF6 .gamma-CD have a laminar structure. The beta- and gamma-cyclode
xtrin encapsulation effect on the electro-oxidation of the binuclear c
omplex was studied using cyclic voltammetry. The electron-transfer rea
ctions associated with the oxidation of the two different N-bonded and
C-bonded organometallic fragments are substantially affected by beta
and gamma encapsulation.
