Hydrogen evolution from aqueous solutions on the p-gallium phosphide e
lectrodes was studied by means of cyclic voltammetry and impedance spe
ctroscopy. The semiconductor properties of the material, and consequen
tly the efficiency of water photolysis, are affected by the crystallog
raphic orientation of the photocathode surface.
