Within the framework of dissipationless multi-fluid theory for plasmas
, all nonlinear perturbations of a stationary equilibrium that could b
e created from the equilibrium without breaking local entropy conserva
tion are considered. Describing the fluid perturbations by Eulerian di
splacement vectors reveals a general symmetry and through Noether's th
eorem leads to a conservation law. Its relation to the law of energy c
onservation is discussed since it will be important for the generaliza
tion of the energy principle known for static equilibria in magnetohyr
odynamics to an energy principle of stationary equilibria in the frame
work of a multi-fluid theory. (C) 1998 American Institute of Physics.
