Abstract
Ab initio plane-wave pseudopotential local-density theory is used to m odel sites of In in diamond. The most stable site involves In at an of f-center substitutional position in between two adjacent C vacancies. This may be the most stable fundamental defect formed following implan tation. Initial formation of this center is associated with two C inte rstitials.
