A. Puig et al., USE OF OXYRASE ENZYME (OXYRASE(R)) FOR THE DETECTION OF BACTERIOPHAGES OF BACTEROIDES-FRAGILIS IN AEROBIC INCUBATING CONDITIONS, Journal of microbiological methods, 31(3), 1998, pp. 205-207
The biocatalytic oxygen reducing agent oxyrase enzyme (Oxyrase(R)) was
shown to be useful for the detection of bacteriophages infecting the
anaerobic bacteria Bacteroides fragilis, which have been proposed as p
otential indicators of human viruses and/or human faecal pollution in
water. Oxyrase(R) provided very good conditions both for growing Bact.
fragilis in liquid cultures in aerobic conditions and for the enumera
tion of bacteriophages by means of a triple agar layer for the detecti
on of plaque-forming units. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.
