Abstract
A new diterpenoid named as bondenolide (1) was isolated from the ethyl acetate soluble part of the methanolic extract of Caesalpinia bonduc (seeds). In addition to 1, four known triterpenoids: alpha-amyrin [12- ursen-3 beta-ol], beta-amyrin [12-oleanen-3 beta-ol], lup-20(29)-en-3 beta-ol, lup-20(29)-en-3 beta-yl acetate and two known sterols: beta-s itosterol [24(R)-stigmast-5-en-3 beta-ol] and beta-sitosteryl galactos ide [3-O-beta-D-galactopyranosyl-stigmasta-5-enen] were also isolated from the same source.
