G. Tordjman et al., LOW INTESTINAL BLEEDING IN YOUNG-ADULTS - A SURGICAL INDICATION, Gastroenterologie clinique et biologique, 21(3), 1997, pp. 217-218
The cause of low digestive bleeding remains unknown despite numerous i
nvestigations in less than 15% of cases. The case of a 22-year-old you
ng female who presented 3 episodes of low digestive bleeding a 25 mont
hs period, without any cause identified despite numerous investigation
s, is presented. Laparoscopy performed to establish a diagnosis showed
a large Meckel's diverticulum which was removed. In adults, Meckel's
diverticulum causes uncommonly symptoms and are revealed by an episode
s of digestive bleeding in less than 10% of cases. After several episo
des of low digestive bleeding, a surgical procedure can be proposed, b
y coelioscopy better than laparotomy, to look for Meckel's diverticulu
m. This observation shows that this attitude, recommended in children,
can be proposed also in young adults.
