Abstract
Program FLOC is a program written in ANSI standard C to analyze underw ater images of marine particles. Analysis techniques are based on mapp ing the variable background (threshold) illumination of a given image. FLOC enables rapid analysis of hundreds of underwater images within a day. FLOC is used to determine the distribution of suspended flee siz e, hoc aspect ratio, and hoc concentration. Data from a glacier-domina ted fjord in east Greenland, Kangerdlugssuaq, are used to demonstrate the applicability of the program in helping sedimentologists understan d the behavior and character of marine particles released from iceberg s.
