We have measured anelastic properties of (TaSe4)(2)I by applying a dir
ect current in a 5 Hz torsion experiment. We obtained an anelastic mod
ulus decrease of as much as 30% and a maximum internal friction increa
se of 1500%. From frequency analysis of the anelastic properties betwe
en 5 Hz and 10(-3)Hz we have obtained relaxation times which run betwe
en 0.1 and 2 s. These results confirm previous works indicating the re
laxation character of the changes observed in the anelastic properties
, but keep open the question of the relaxing entity. (C) 1998 Elsevier
