The impact of iron supplementation concerning hemoglobin after gastroi
ntestinal bleeding is still not confirmed. We compared in a prospectiv
e randomized study including 36 patients with gastrointestinal bleedin
g the effect of oral or intravenous supplementation in contrast to a g
roup without substitution. Within a 6 day iron application hemoglobin
and reticulocyte data increased significantly: Thus iron supplementati
on if possible oral is an efficient procedure after gastrointestinal b
leeding.
