M. Tadic et al., THE SELF-CONSISTENT ELECTRONIC-STRUCTURE OF RECTANGULAR FREESTANDING QUANTUM WIRES - FOURIER EXPANSION APPROACH, Superlattices and microstructures, 23(2), 1998, pp. 369-379
A method for the self-consistent calculation of rectangular free-stand
ing quantum wires is presented. The method is also used for the electr
onic structure calculation of cladded quantum wins. It relies on the w
avefunction's Fourier expansion, and uses the structure symmetry to sa
ve computation time. Calculations are performed for these two types of
quantum wire at a number of dopant and surface state densities, and t
he influence of various parameters is analyzed. At low temperatures, t
he occurrence of Friedel oscillations is noticed, arising from a very
limited number of well separated electronic states. (C) 1998 Academic
