The blocking performance of circuit switched traffic in a multicast sw
itch with intermediate channel grouping is investigated. The particula
r switch concerned here is a three-stage time-space-time (TST) interco
nnection network and performs time-division circuit switching. The inp
ut and output stages are time slot interchangers (TSI). The central st
age is a time-multiplexed switch with two ports per address. By exploi
ting the channel grouping at the central stage as well as reducing the
average loading at each internal frame, the three-stage multicast swi
tch has potential to remove almost all slot contention blocking.
