Dx. Wu et al., INDUCTION AND IDENTIFICATION OF TEMPERATURE-SENSITIVE ALBINO GENES ININDICA RICE (ORYZA-SATIVA L), Cereal Research Communications, 25(4), 1997, pp. 905-910
LCM2 and LCM3 were two albino mutants induced from a temperature-sensi
tive genetic male sterile (TG(M) over dot S) line 2177s, with the trea
tment of 300 Gy gamma irradiation. The albino phenotype of two mutants
expressed either under high or low temperatures, while normal green l
eaves developed under low or high temperatures, respectively. Genetic
analysis indicated that each mutant was controlled by a single recessi
ve nuclear gene. The albino phenotype was affected by the exogenous ap
plication of reduced sugar, such as glucose, sucrose and maltose. Afte
r treatment, the albino leaves recovered to be greenish when compared
with normal green leaves. The results suggested that two mutants be an
ideal system in understanding gene expression regulated by temperatur
e.
