A health care organization's thoughtful and rigorous credentialing and
privileging process is not only required by state and federal regulat
ions but is essential for building a quality professional staff. The a
ddition of nonphysician providers has challenged organizations to arti
culate the appropriate credentialing process for these providers. Furt
her, the credentialing process has been burdened by the redundancy cre
ated when providers require credentialing and privileging by multiple
health care settings and managed care organizations. This paper descri
bes a multidisciplinary credentialing and privileging system of the hi
ghest standard that minimizes effort and expense for both the provider
and the organization.
