Abstract
Today quality care is not driven solely by the professional integrity of health care providers. Quality is demanded and defined by health ca re consumers. To survive within the competitive health care market, qu ality is a priority initiative for most health care organizations. The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (Joint Commission) requires interdisciplinary performance improvement activit ies to ensure continuous quality improvement. Johns Hopkins Bayview Me dical Center has a Quality Management Structure that ensures performan ce improvement initiatives are interdisciplinary and directed toward t he organizational mission and vision. The Clinical Value Compass and F OCUS-PDCA provide clear direction for performance improvement initiati ves and foster agreement on the clinical outcomes, functional needs, s atisfaction, and cost.
