Abstract
Insoluble, non-hydrolyzable, macromolecular organic matter was shown t o occur in substantial amounts in the loamy, acid, forest soil found i n Lacadee (South-west France). The chemical structure of resistant org anic material isolated from the Lacadee soil was examined by a combina tion of spectroscopic (solid state C-13 NMR, FTIR) and pyrolytic (Curi e-point flash Py/GC/MS) methods. The origin of this non-hydrolyzable, aliphatic, material and its relationship with cutans and suberans from higher plants were also considered. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. Al l rights reserved.
