The topological aspects of the quantum number shift for the quantum Ha
ll fluid has been discussed here. It is shown that this effectively re
presents the deviation of the Berry phase associated with the chiral a
nomaly arising out of the quantization procedure of a fermion from tha
t of a quantum Hall particle induced by the external magnetic held. Al
so it is argued that there should not be any shift when the curvature
of space vanishes.
