E. Santi et M. Bral, EFFECT OF TREATMENT ON CYCLOSPORINE-INDUCED AND NIFEDIPINE-INDUCED GINGIVAL ENLARGEMENT - CLINICAL AND HISTOLOGIC RESULTS, The International journal of periodontics & restorative dentistry, 18(1), 1998, pp. 81-85
The clinical and histologic responses to periodontal treatment of ging
ival enlargements, induced when cyclosporine and nifedipine were admin
istered singly or in combination, were evaluated. A significant correl
ation was noted between plaque, gingivitis, and gingival overgrowth. S
everity of enlargement appeared to be greater in patients on combined
therapy All treatment approaches such as scaling roof planing gingivec
tomy and periodontal flaps, and a combination of therapies, were effec
tive in the management of gingival overgrowth up to 1 year after compl
etion of treatment Adjunctive use of chlorhexidine was found to be ben
eficial.
