This letter presents a new formulation of the extended Kalman filter (
EKF) for use in frequency tracking. A brief summary of previous EKF ap
proaches is given and the new approach detailed. Simulation studies of
the standard and new algorithms show that a significant improvement i
n tracking and threshold performance is achieved.
