Hydrogen permeation and corrosion inhibition characteristics of severa
l organic compounds were studied on a type 1010 (UNS G10100) steel mem
brane in 0.5 M hydrochloric acid (HCl), Tafel extrapolation and linear
polarization methods were used to estimate the corrosion rate, while
the Devanathan-Stachurski technique was used to determine the hydrogen
permeation rate. A simple corrosion model was used to correlate inhib
itor concentration to its inhibiting efficiency. Maximum corrosion red
uction and hydrogen permeation inhibiting efficiencies were measured a
s 82% and 98%, respectively.
