A. Jumpponen et al., DISTRIBUTION AND ECOLOGY OF THE ASCOMYCETE SARCOLEOTIA-GLOBOSA IN THEUNITED-STATES, Canadian journal of botany, 75(12), 1997, pp. 2228-2231
Sarcoleotia globosa (Sommerf.: Fr.) Korf is an ascomycete characterize
d by stipitate ascomata with a convex apothecium, deep brown to black
hymenial surface, greyish brown stipe, and hyaline, clavate, non-to mu
lti-septate ascospores. Collections of S. globosa from Oregon, Washing
ton, and Colorado, United States are reported. Its distribution in Nor
th America is extended from previously reported subarctic to arctic re
gions nearly 2500 km south to the cool temperate zones. Possible assoc
iation of S. globosa with site disturbance, open plant communities, an
d bryophytes is discussed.
