Segawa's syndrome is a rare hereditary progressive dystonia with diurn
al fluctuation, which, in contrast to other types of chronic dystonia
in children, responds dramatically to levodopa therapy. We present a c
ase of a patient, suffering from Segawa's syndrome who underwent two c
esarean sections, and we describe our experience in providing anesthes
ia to that patient. The fist cesarean section was performed with gener
al anesthesia, while the second was accomplished with epidural anesthe
sia. On both occasions the anesthesia was uneventful. (C) 1998 by Else
