Ap. Lewis, AN INFINITE SERIES SOLUTION FOR THE FLOW OF AN INVISCID FLUID INTO A CIRCULAR INLET IN THE PRESENCE OF A CROSS-FLOW, Applied mathematics letters, 11(2), 1998, pp. 103-108
This paper presents an infinite series solution for the irrotational h
ow of an inviscid fluid into an inlet in the presence of a cross-flow.
The flow domain considered consists of a semiinfinite space and a cir
cular cylindrical intake of infinite length. Analytic solutions are fi
rst obtained outside and within the intake for arbitrary normal veloci
ty profiles at the intake mouth. The flow is then determined by matchi
ng the potential and normal velocity profiles given by the two solutio
ns at the intake mouth. The resulting flow predictions are compared wi
th inviscid and laminar flow solutions obtained using the finite eleme
nt method.
