Osteoclast-like giant cell tumors are rare mesenchymal tumors that typ
ically present in osseous tissue and are remarkable because of their s
low growth. We report the sixth documented case of a malignant osteocl
astlike giant-cell tumor primary to the kidney of an 81-year-old man w
ith a 5-month history of hematuria. Postnephrectomy analysis of the tu
mor, including immunohistochemical stains and electron microscopy, con
firmed the diagnosis. Although the patient died of unrelated complicat
ions, metastatic disease was suspected. (C) 1998, Elsevier Science Inc
