Pf. Mcauliffe et Mh. Heinemann, THE USE OF PNEUMATIC RETINOPEXY TO DELAY SURGICAL REPAIR OF A RETINAL-DETACHMENT ASSOCIATED WITH THE GANCICLOVIR INTRAOCULAR DEVICE, Ophthalmic surgery, 29(3), 1998, pp. 244-246
Rhegmatogenous retinal detachments are associated with cytomegalovirus
(CMV) retinitis and the use of the ganciclovir intraocular device. Pa
rs plana vitrectomy with silicone oil tamponade is the preferred techn
ique to repair such detachments. The authors describe the use of pneum
atic retinopexy as part of a treatment strategy in the management of m
ultiple retinal detachments in a patient with CMV retinitis treated wi
th ganciclovir implants, Pneumatic retinopexy may benefit patients whe
n the causative retinal break is superior and is located in an area of
retina uninvolved With CMV infection, because it can be used to delay
surgical intervention.
