T. Higuchi et al., PENTAVALENT TECHNETIUM-99M-DIMERCAPTOSUCCINIC ACID SCINTIGRAPHY IN RENAL OSTEODYSTROPHY, The Journal of nuclear medicine, 39(3), 1998, pp. 541-543
Pentavalent Tc-99m-dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) scintigraphy and Tc-
99m-hydroxymethylene diphosphonate (HMDP) bone scan were performed in
one patient with renal osteodystrophy (ROD) before and after vitamin D
-3 pulse therapy, The bone scan showed diffusely increased tracer upta
ke in the whole skeleton, and no change of tracer distribution was not
ed before or after vitamin D-3 pulse therapy, However, (TC)-T-99m(V)-D
MSA scintigraphy revealed diffusely increased tracer uptake in the who
le skeleton before therapy, and markedly decreased tracer uptake in th
e bones was seen at 5 mo after therapy, Increased uptake of Tc-99m(V)-
DMSA was observed at 7 mo after therapy, which reflected the laborator
y findings, Technetium-99m-M-DMSA scintigraphy appeared to be more sen
sitive than the conventional Tc-99m-HMDP bone scan in assessing the ch
aracteristics and therapeutic effect of bone disease in ROD.
