Abstract
We investigate the Rydberg wave packet dynamics of core-driven two-ele ctron atoms with the density matrix formalism. The spontaneous emissio n of the core transition is included. We show how it modifies the dyna mics of radial Rydberg wave packets, which are nondispersing, but slow ly decaying in the absence of spontaneous emission. Although our consi derations apply to all two-electron atoms, we focus on the experimenta lly convenient element calcium.
