The degenerate and nondegenerate nonlinear Kerr coefficients n(2) of d
isordered media composed of submicrometer dioxide titania particles em
bedded in a dye solution were measured using an interferometric techni
que. The influence of the scattering particles on the value of n(2) ar
e discussed in the light of stimulated emission in these systems. The
results obtained can be useful for applications in nonlinear ultrashor
t pulse propagation in disordered media.
