Dye-sensitized indium oxide (In2O3) thick films were prepared by spin
coating on ITO glass substrates and their photoelectronic properties w
ere studied. A semitransparent aluminum electrode was vacuum deposited
on the In2O3 film, and the photovoltaic effect and alcohol sensing be
havior of the sandwich cells were examined. Two kinds of dyes, rose be
ngale and brilliant green, were used as the dopant pigments. Rectifica
tion behavior was observed in the photo and dark current-voltage chara
cteristics for undoped and dye-sensitized cells. The doping of rose be
ngale and brilliant green increased and decreased the current, respect
ively, both in the dark and under light illumination. The rose bengale
doped cell showed a moderate current decrease with adsorption of alco
hols.
