beta-Galactosidase was purified from Kluyveromyces lactis. Polyclonal
antibodies raised against it cross-reacted against the beta-galactosid
ase of Kluyveromyces fragilis but not against beta-galactosidases of b
acterial, fungal or animal origin. The enzyme is composed of 124 kDa m
onomers and is active in both dimeric and tetrameric form.
