Abstract
During the last decades a significant progress in the treatment of acu te lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in children has been achieved. Accordi ng to the data of some leading centers in this field current event-fre e survival rate is as high as 80%. In the Republic of Belarus from Jul y 1990 a total of 337 children (3 months to 16 years of age) received chemotherapy according to the modified protocol ALL-BFM-90. According to 6-year follow-up data, complete remission was achieved in 315(93.5% ) patients, 49(13.5%) children died at different stages of treatment. Relapses developed in 42(12.5%) patients. 243(72.1%) patients survived at the endpoint of the study in continuous complete remission, Event- free survival rate was 68+/-3% for the whole group of patients. The in troduction of the ALL-BFM-90 protocol of chemotherapy allowed to impro ve significantly the outcomes of ALL children treatment. Further progr ess may be achieved in cooperative trials.
