Abstract
Using laser flash photolysis, the photoisomerization and cis-trans equ ilibrium relaxation of 4-amino azobenzene and 4-dimethylamino azobenze ne was studied. At low temperature, cis conformers on photoexcitation produced trans conformers along with a fast-decaying intermediate abso rbing in 450-490 nm region. These short-lived intermediates were assig ned as their zwitterions. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A.
