A variety of novel diagnostic instruments and methods have been develo
ped for use in laser fusion research at the Institute of Laser Enginee
ring (ILE), Osaka University. Our efforts are particularly concentrate
d on development of a diagnostic method capable of high spatial, tempo
ral, and energy resolutions, which, at the same time, makes it possibl
e to observe precisely implosion stability and hot spark formation at
the center of compressed plasma. Present status of the X-ray and parti
cle diagnostics development is overviewed.
