The results of recent laser-solid interaction experiments carried out
in the PROGRESS-P facility are described. In these experiments, the pa
rameters of laser radiation were the following: lambda = 1.053 mu m, t
he pulse energy was up to 500 mJ, the pulse duration was similar to 2
ps, and the diameter of the focal spot was <20 mu m. The spectra of so
ft (epsilon < 1.5 keV) and hard X-rays (epsilon = 5-80 keV) were measu
red for A1, glass, and Ta solid targets. The temperature of fast elect
rons was estimated to be about 10 keV. The spot size of the soft X-ray
pulse was measured by a pinhole camera and was about 20 mu m. The X-r
ay lines of He-like Al ions were recorded by a spectrometer in which a
planar gypsum crystal was used.
