Abstract
A new numerical technique for the computation of space charge coupled problems is applied to the electrical corona at high voltage DC (HVDC) transmission line. The space charge and electrical potential distribu tions around a HVDC transmission line are calculated in the presence o f crosswind. The numerical method remains stable for significantly str onger crosswinds than have been achieved in previous publications. The computational model is validated by comparison with experimentally me asured current-voltage characteristics and ground current density dist ributions. An interesting feature is revealed where the lobe of maximu m charge density at the wire drifts upstream as the crosswind strength increases. Numerical behaviour of the algorithm is discussed.
